Salvation
Life after Death
Death is not the end.
Death is really a beginning—another step forward in Heavenly Father’s plan for His children.
(1 Peter 4: 6) For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the
flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
Spirit World
++ (Doctrine and Covenants 138: 16) They were assembled awaiting the advent of the Son of God into the spirit world, to declare their redemption from the
bands of death.
++ (Doctrine and Covenants 138: 36) Thus was it made known that our Redeemer spent his time during his sojourn in the world of spirits, instructing and
preparing the faithful spirits of the prophets who had testified of him in the flesh;
++ (Doctrine and Covenants 138: 54) Including the building of the temples and the performance of ordinances therein for the redemption of the dead, were
also in the spirit world.
++ (Doctrine and Covenants 138: 56) Even before they were born, they, with many others, received their first lessons in the world of spirits and were
prepared to come forth in the due time of the Lord to labor in his vineyard for the salvation of the souls of men.
++ (Doctrine and Covenants 138: 57) I beheld that the faithful elders of this dispensation, when they depart from mortal life, continue their labors in
the preaching of the gospel of repentance and redemption, through the sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of God, among those who are in darkness and under the
bondage of sin in the great world of the spirits of the dead.
Judgment
** (Alma 34: 34) Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for
that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal
world.
The final judgment that will occur after the resurrection. God, through Jesus Christ, will judge each person to determine the eternal glory he
will receive. This judgment will be based on each person’s obedience to God’s commands, including his acceptance of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The Father commits all judgment unto the Son.
(John 5: 22) For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.
We will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
(Romans 14: 10) But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the
judgment seat of Christ.
The dead will be judged out of those things which were written.
(Revelations 20: 12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and
the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
For all thy doings thou shalt be brought into judgment.
** (1 Nephi 10: 20) Therefore remember, O man, for all thy doings thou shalt be brought into judgment.
The Twelve Apostles and the twelve Nephite disciples will judge Israel.
** (1 Nephi 12: 9) And he said unto me: Thou rememberest the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb? Behold they are they who shall judge the
twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, the twelve ministers of thy seed shall be judged of them; for ye are of the house of Israel.
Can ye imagine yourselves before the tribunal of God?
** (Alma 5: 17-25)
17 Or do ye imagine to yourselves that ye can lie unto the Lord in that day, and say—Lord, our works have been righteous works upon the face of the earth—and
that he will save you?
18 Or otherwise, can ye imagine yourselves brought before the tribunal of God with your souls filled with guilt and remorse, having a remembrance of all your
guilt, yea, a perfect remembrance of all your wickedness, yea, a remembrance that ye have set at defiance the commandments of God?
19 I say unto you, can ye look up to God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? I say unto you, can you look up, having the image of God engraven upon
your countenances?
20 I say unto you, can ye think of being saved when you have yielded yourselves to become subjects to the devil?
21 I say unto you, ye will know at that day that ye cannot be saved; for there can no man be saved except his garments are washed white; yea, his garments must
be purified until they are cleansed from all stain, through the blood of him of whom it has been spoken by our fathers, who should come to redeem his people from
their sins.
22 And now I ask of you, my brethren, how will any of you feel, if ye shall stand before the bar of God, having your garments stained with blood and all manner
of filthiness? Behold, what will these things testify against you?
23 Behold will they not testify that ye are murderers, yea, and also that ye are guilty of all manner of wickedness?
24 Behold, my brethren, do ye suppose that such an one can have a place to sit down in the kingdom of God, with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob, and also all
the holy prophets, whose garments are cleansed and are spotless, pure and white?
25 I say unto you, Nay; except ye make our Creator a liar from the beginning, or suppose that he is a liar from the beginning, ye cannot suppose that such can
have place in the kingdom of heaven; but they shall be cast out for they are the children of the kingdom of the devil.
