Chapter 1 Marilla & Mrs. Lynde hear the news

Marilla waited a while before going back into the kitchen, she wanted the new couple to have some time alone. When she walked in Anne and Gilbert were sitting at the table holding hands and talking.

"Why, Gilbert, it's so nice to see you up and about again," Marilla said smiling and pretending she didn't see their joined hands.

"Thank you Miss Cuthbert, it's nice to be up and about again." he said smiling the smile of the luckiest man on Earth.

"Marilla, we have something to tell you," Anne said looking away from Gilbert for the first time since they'd kissed. (He was so handsome)

"Oh, and what's that?" Marilla asked nonchalantly

"Well, Miss Cuthbert, I've asked Anne to marry me," Gilbert said

"And I've accepted," Anne finished

"Oh you dears!" Marilla exclaimed hugging them both at the same time. "I'm so happy for you."

" What are you so happy about Marilla?" Asked Mrs. Lynde coming into the Kitchen.

"Oh, Mrs. Lynde I hadn't thought you'd be back til tomorrow, otherwise we would've waited to tell Marilla the news until you came in." Anne said woe fully.

"What news are you on about Anne?" Mrs. Lynde asked

I think what she's trying to tell you ma'am," Gilbert said, his eyes shining with joy. "Is that Anne's agreed to marry me."

"Well it's about time you came to your senses Anne!" Mrs. Lynde exclaimed hugging her joyfully

"I'm mighty glad you didn't give up on her Gilbert" Mrs. Lynde said hugging him as well. "She's a strange one this woman is."

"It's getting late, we should head over to tell your parents the good news" Anne said

"Yes, I'm sure they'll be happy for us." Gilbert said. "Goodbye miss Cuthbert, Mrs. Lynde."

"I'll be home before dark." Anne said as she and Gilbert walked out the door.
