Sailor's Creek Battlefield

This is the site of the last major battle of the Civil War. It is located in Virginia on 321 acres in Amelia, Nottoway and Prince Edward counties a few miles east of Farmville.

On April 6, 1865 General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia surrendered 7,700 men, including eight generals, in the Battle of Sailor's Creek. This defeat was key to Lee's decision to surrender at Appomattox Court House 72 hours later and ended the war.
